The Confederation Government (questions)

Postby Skink » Wed Feb 10, 2010 7:23 pm

I cannot recall this ever happening but what would happen if say Ravenette declared war on Diamounde. And since each planet has it's own military and if they went to war,

what would the Confederation do?

Since each planet is a member if a member declares war on one member do both worlds suffer under the boot of the Confederation Military

OR

Does the Confederation leave it be?

I'm a little confused.

My guess would be that the Confederation would target the planet that started the conflict or pick a side that they had more interest in economically speaking. I highly doubt that they would just sit on the sidelines.

Let's see now, how would it work. The Confederation is made up of independent worlds. If two of them went to war with each other, the majority of the rest of them would have to agree that intervention was a good idea. Thinking back, the only time that nearly happened was in A World of Hurt.

Was there a reason why you chose this form of government over a large republic? The Confederation is a mix of a republic/confederacy I beleive. Except the central government is stong.

My guess would be that a confederacy is a much more manageable solution. When you consider the vast distances, number of worlds, population size and so forth, it's unlikely a republic, like ours, would work.

Alisium is right. Think 17th-early-18th Centuries, with sea-going sailing ships instead of starships. It takes weeks, sometimes months, for a message to go from one place to another. A single government is an impossibility under those circumstances. Dan and I envisioned the Confederation sort of as a UN with teeth.

So the Confederation acts as a regulatory force then? The planet governments would be like independent countries on earth that have their own personal governments. Planets would make their dealings independently with other planets and the confederation government would act as the regulatory force that kept things running smoothly and would only interfere when conflicts between planets threaten the rest of the confederation?

Ah Ha! I understand now! Planets can attack each other just like old earth. Cept the Confederation would interfere in the warfare.

And if memory serves me, Diamunde's military became non-existent after St. Cere (I know it's wrong) was killed. :ugeek:
